The Tallangatta Herald is a free, fortnightly newspaper with a circulation of 1600. It is delivered to all households of Tallangatta, and available from general stores within the region, including Kergunyah, Kiewa, Tangambalanga, Bethanga, Eskdale and Mitta Mitta. This year the Herald expanded to include the Kiewa River Gazette as a monthly insert.
The Tallangatta Herald office was moved to the Secondary College in 2005, and is offered to students as a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course – Certificate II in Printing and Graphic Arts (Desktop Publishing). It is completed over two years and auspiced by Wodonga TAFE. The layout is done by students, with articles and photos contributed by the community, with additional photography and journalism performed by the students.
The Herald is a unique feature of the school and community, fostering close links between local organisations, businesses, clubs, individuals, students and teachers. The Herald has received a number of educational and community awards, including the Shine Award for community involvement for the Hume Region, and the RACVFree2Go Youth Community Involvement Award, sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank.
